Rachel to the Rescue

It's official.  This could be the worst Oscars ever.  Between Red Carpet roundup lacking flavor and any finesse, my bf James Franco saying little but looking high, and Anne Hathaway a-whoopin' and a-hollerin' like a tween who just caught Bieber fever, it was a mess of a spectacle to say the least.  I found myself fast-forwarding to my favorite twosome Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law presenting god-knows-what to who-cares-whom for the simple fact that two scoops of SEXY are wayyyy better than one.  The other saving grace?  Anne's 8 costume changes courtesy of 8 months preggers Rachel Zoe...at least someone came to work today.  You be the judge.
8.  Tom Ford:  Loved the slight nod to the Asian Invasion seen all over spring runways, but layers upon layers added a much dreaded 10lbs. to Anne's already voluptuous frame.
7. Vivienne Westwood:  Princess pouf + Princess updo = A total Goth Princess moment.  I prefer Anne in slimmer silhouettes to suit her curves.

6.  Valentino:  We've seen this red concoction all over red carpets before...not a total miss, but not a total hit either.  Her highlights could have gone a tad darker to really let this dress shine.

5.  Givenchy:  White gown, black stage, perfect contrast for an opening ensemble.  Loved the detailing in the bodice, slight enough for a touch of bling, but not too over the top to detract attention away from the star herself.

4.  Lanvin:  A total SJP via SATC II moment.  Fierce and fabulous!  My fave fashion meets farce moment.  A brilliant move on Rachel's part since Anne needed something spectacularly campy, but still couture for this solo performance.  Custom Brian Atwood pumps also a nice, detailed touch.

3.  Oscar de la Renta:  Swingin' 60's vibe...how can you go wrong?  Looks like how every superstar should look...Blinged-out bombshell.

2.  Armani Prive:  Color me Happy!!!  A shot of cobalt against that pitch black stage screamed CHIC!  Gorgeous shade against Anne's porcelain skin...the only moment where I thought her highlights truly helped the look instead of hindering it.

My number 1 pick of the night:  Atelier Versace @ Vanity Fair afterparty
Beautiful and body-conscious cut in a cranberry hue.  The bodice looks like it's melted onto her frame making her look super fit, yet super sexy.  Love the loose ringlets, natural makeup, and minimal jewelry...Makes Anne the main attraction and the ensemble the supporting cast.  Gorgeous!!!

and last but not least....my pick for this hosting gig Oscars 2012...

When comedic timing and perfect chemistry meet....Ahhhh....swooooooon.

What did you think of this year's Oscar's?

Bowl-o-Rama

Let's bowl, let's bowl, let's rock-'n-roll!
Hey come on, let's get the show on the road!
Let's bowl, let's bowl, let's rock-'n-roll...
Cuz the stakes are high, and the winner takes all...
We're gonna score-ore-ore tonight...

I'm not ashamed to admit that one of my all time favorite movies is Grease 2. It probably took me all of 1983 to memorize every line, every tune, every outfit from start to finish, but when Stephanie Zinone (a super sexy Michelle Pfeiffer) and Michael Carrington (brilliant young bloke {and my first crush at 3yrs old} Maxwell Caulfield) first flirt at the Bowl-o-rama then finally hook up at the Rock-a-Hula Luau in the movie's ending sequence, I literally wanted to cry and exclaim, Pink Ladies RULE!!! It's all about part 2 baby! Totally campy= totally Awesome!!! I completely get the whole "High School Musical" hoopla...show tunes and costumes and cool riders, oh my!  Rent it today and make it a blockbuster night y'all!

 ...bowling, booze, and burgers...Perfect trifecta!

NBA All Stars Jam Session

It's not every year that LA sponsors the much-anticipated celebrity All Stars basketball weekend, so when the entire association comes-a-knockin', we (meaning bf and his posse) come-a-flockin'.  Well, us and thousands of Angeleno's tiny tots it seems.  Located at the LA Convention Center this past Saturday with over 450,000 square feet of nonstop basketball action with skills challenges, meet-and-greets with celebrity players, and an entire lot dedicated to Kid Zones, the session seemed more like my niece's inflated 5-year old birthday party at Chuck-E-Cheese's than a professional league-sponsored shindig.  The highlight?  Barney's semi-annual sample sale right next door...Hallelujah, there is a god!  From hoop dreams to haute couture...Finally...We be jammin'!  I LOVE LA!

Bejeweled

If Gucci dictated my days, it would probably look a little something like this...

Turquoise and Peridot for prosperity and peaceful tranquility...

Amethyst and Garnet to remain aspirational, yet somehow grounded in reality...

Gucci RTW Fall 2011 via style.com, images 1, 2, 3
Ruby and Citrine for the ultimate romance and utmost satisfaction that follows...

Just my luck that Frida Giannini designs according to the modern woman's way to a better, blinged-out life...Bellissima!

Anthropologie Major

When boho becomes a way of life, it's nice to know one-stop-shops exist to help you stockpile everything from hodgepodge and house wares to maxi-dresses and platform mules.  Much like how the suburbanite shopper heads directly to Tarjay for a quick, yet colloquial fix, savvy fashionistas can shoot straight to hippy-meets-haute topshop Anthropologie for the latest and greatest in living and lusting.  Currently obsessing over hand-painted knobs and heirloom throws in the boldest and brassiest of spring shades designed to undo the worst of post-winter blues.  Judging by Anthro's "more is more" mantra, I'm feeling better and brighter already.

Happy Shoppping Guys!

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head...I'm love-love-LOVING rainy days in SoCal when toppers offer both fashion and function.  Been in the mood to bust out the ol' hat collection for months now and praying to the weather gods since a) I can get away with not doing my hair and b) My roots are growing out.  Two for two whoohoo!!!...I have a feeling it's gonna be Hat Day all dang week guys!  Happy Monday!
